08.26.10 - You can't call the law on me ...

I am the law!

Some days that's true.

08.24.10 - Another milestone

Maddie is 20 months old today. Today also marks the one-year anniversary that Maddie has been going to daycare at Lisa's house. One year ago, Angie had to hold on to her so she wouldn't fall over. Today she had to hold on to her so she wouldn't run away!

08.22.10 - I pusha button, no you pusha button, no I pusha button!

Maddie has discovered the shutter button on my camera and insisted on snapping some photos tonight while I was trying to photograph Nate. I gave her a pair of lens caps to play with and she tossed them aside and said, "I don't want those." No kidding. Those words came plain as day out of her mouth. Today, she asked her mom "why?" when she told her to leave our bedroom and go play. Why? Because we said so, that's why!

And it starts.

08.14.10 - Hangin' on the South Side

We got up and around early enough today to take the kids to Watson Park before it got too hot. Unfortunately, the train and pony rides didn't open until noon (???) so we spent some time on the playground. I was disappointed to see that the equipment I remember as a kid - including the giant rocket ship slide - had been replaced with new, more kid-friendly equipment. Unfortunately, some of the language we heard coming from another four-year-old wasn't so kid friendly, so we had to leave. Hey, it's the south side.

As an aside, why is it that kids just instinctively try to go up the slide from the bottom?

08.12.10 - I wear my sunglasses at night

Maddie likes to play with Angie's sunglasses.

08.09.10 - Lettuce wraps

We had lettuce wraps for dinner tonight. Maddie was picking at the meat until she saw me eat mine like a burrito. She couldn't quite get her hands around it so she leaned over and nibbled on it from her plate. So cute!

08.07.10 - Row, row, row your boat

We took the boat ride at the zoo today. It wasn't our favorite but it was nice to sit down for awhile.

08.06.10 - Scheer Family Reunion

The day after the Royals game, we did a little shopping then headed out to the Scheer Family Reunion. Angie's grandma, Nan, is one of 11 Scheer children. Maddie went swimming in a big pool for the first time before we headed inside to watch a magic show. Truthfully, I think the way Gramma Karen and Nan look at Maddie and Nate is magical, but that's just me. After dinner, we made the drive back to Wichita. Angie even volunteered to drive for a bit so I could ride in back with the kids. We listened to lullabies as the setting sun burned on the horizon. What a great weekend!

08.06.10 - Royals with the Swearingens

Our friends Brian and Emily, and their boys Cayden and Carter, met up with us in Kansas City last weekend for a Royals game. Here are a few snaps from our seats in the upper deck and hotel. Be sure to check out this photo of Nate watching the fireworks after the game. Check back soon and I'll share some photos of Maddie swimming at the family reunion.

08.04.10 - But Dad ...

Why don't you update my blog anymore!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Actually, she was crying during the Royals game last weekend. Who could blame her? It IS the Royals. And it was hot. And late. Hopefully by this weekend, I'll have time to upload some more photos from our weekend in Kansas City. Despite the look on her face in this photo, we had a pretty good time!
