03.31.10 - What a great day!

And busy, too! Angie and the kids went over to Nan and Pop's before picking me up at work to go to Maddie's 15-month and Nate's two-month checkup. Maddie was all smiles in the waiting room but was anything but when it was time for Dr. Green to examine her! She's doing well, though, measuring about 31 inches tall and 20 pounds, or the 85th percentile and tenth percentile, respectively. She's gonna be a tall skinny minnie, as we like to say. Nate, on the other hand, is a chunk! He weighs 12 pounds, 12 ounces and has grown to about 23.5 inches. Both are at the upper ends of the percentiles for those measurements.

After we left Dr. Green's office, we headed back to Nan and Pop's house as they'd invited us for dinner. Maddie enjoyed a story with Pop, her great-grandpa, before we ate. It's only been in the last month or so that Maddie wanted anything to do with him. Now she'll read stories and share snacks with him.

Because the weather was so nice and because we always eat too much at Nan's house, after dinner we took another walk around the lake. I think Maddie enjoys it more than Nan but I'm not quite sure on that!

I just love this silhouette of Nan pulling Maddie. This probably would have been an acceptable stand-alone weather feature back in my newspaper days but photographs like this mean more to me now that I'm able to include in them the people I love. Click here to see the entire entourage over on Nate's blog.

01.15.10 - Got Milk?

With Dr. Green's approval, we began transitioning Maddie from formula to whole milk this week. We've been mixing it in with her bottles but tonight decided to put some in her sippy cup. We're not sure how much of it she actually drank but at least she didn't turn it down.

01.04.10 - When the boss is away ...

Maddie plays with Angie's boss, Lisa, while making a brief appearance at the medical school following an appointment today with Dr. Green. You'd never know by this photo that Maddie is suffering from an ear infection. You would know it by looking at her now, however, as it's well past her bedtime and she's not interested in going to sleep!

09.23.09 - Nine month checkup

Maddie had her nine-month checkup today. The doctor said we're doing a great job with her as she's about where she should be at 12 months. She's eating well, sleeping regularly, crawling, sitting and starting to get into everything. If she has any faults, it's with keeping her socks on.

09.11.09 - Flower power

Maddie was feeling a bit under the weather today so after picking her up at daycare we headed over to the immediate care clinic that's near our house. The exam room was full of pretty flowers and butterflies which Maddie just found amazing. The doctor said Maddie's watery eyes and constant sneezing was most likely due to a virus and we'd just have to wait it out three to five days. The flower power of that room must have worked because after a full night's sleep, Maddie awoke to her normal, chipper self again! When it's time to update her bedroom, we're going to have to find some of those flowers!

04.03.09 - Shhhhh! Sweepin'!

Neither Dr. Green nor Jan, Maddie's physical therapist, would appreciate this posture much.

04.01.09 - Meet Clark

Meet Clark, Maddie's first boyfriend. Their eyes connected last week at physical therapy and he was there again today for Maddie's appointment. We won't have to worry about seeing him at our next appointment in two weeks. Oh, no. He snuck into Maddie's diaper bag and found his way into our living room tonight, once again making eyes at Maddie. But I guess I'll let him stay. You could say that I've wavered just a bit on my "No Dating Until She's 32" rule. I figure there's no harm with letting Clark stay. He's only two-dimensional.

03.09.09 - PT

Maddie had her first visit to a physical therapist this morning to address the tortellini concerns we first mentioned here. After 20 minutes, the therapist concluded that Maddie was a perfect baby and that we just needed to practice a couple of stretches after each diaper change to encourage her to look more to her right.

Not to sound too conceited but I could have told you that we have a perfect baby!

02.20.09 - Mean Green!

We took Maddie to Dr. Green's office today for her two month check. She got another (mostly*) clean bill of health and her first round of shots. She was not a happy camper! Every time Dr. Green moves her in a way that causes her to fuss, he jokingly calls himself "Mean Green!" Boy, I'll say! In reality, though, Dr. Green is a great family doc and we feel blessed to know that he's taking care of our family.

*We are to observe whether Maddie continues to spit up for about another week before getting a script for Baby Zantac. Also, she likes to turn her head to the left. We need to also work on getting her to turn her head to the right as she prefers looking left. Doing that too much might cause a condition that sounds like tortellini. Lord knows we don't want her looking like ring-shaped noodles!

12.29.08 - One week checkup

Maddie gets a clean bill of health at her one-week checkup with Dr. Green.
